Musings: Mom? Is This Heaven?

Mom? Is this Heaven?
“No Honey. This is your new forever home in Beaverton.”

As I start my third week in my new home and our third Sunday together as a family, I am reflecting on how blessed my new life is. I never realized one, sometimes silly puppy, could be this loved. I’m still learning about my siblings and settling in, and my older brother, Tesla, is still sometimes a little grouchy with me, but I also know at night when it is quiet that he comes to sleep next to me to make sure I am safe. I love my new family.

I wake up every morning excited to see my two parents and typically see my Mom checking out her brood! I immediately start wagging my tail and she always welcomes me up to lie on her chest, where I nuzzle her neck and give her kisses while she tells me she loves me. Then it’s Dad’s turn. He is usually still sleeping, so I have to wake him up with kisses or pulling on his funny little whiskers. I think he is going to look like Lincoln with his white goatee. As I do this, I realize the same ritual of love is happening with my siblings, each having their turn with Mom and then Dad. I guess we are really all very loved.

We are in the midst of remodeling our home and I have found the best perch for watching the birds and the squirrels. Dad really doesn’t want me to catch them. But I can stand on the pillows and watch them in the trees of our back yard! By the windows is really a much better place for our bed than before, especially for me and Miss Bentley! Thanks Dad!!

Dad just got out of the glass enclosure where it’s raining! Silly to stand in the rain like that, but maybe I can join him to see what it’s like. But I’ve come to learn that once Dad is out of the “rain” it means breakfast and a walk, and a walk means – squirrels! WooHoo!!
