My name as you know is Shelby. But did you know, I was named for the Shelby Cobra Mustang – sleek, fast and beautiful. My Dad named me.. and, today I lived up to my name – “an adrenaline-fueled experience while also producing that signature growl that will leave you breathless”. Well I didn’t growl, but I moved like the wind and I am pretty sure my Mom and Dad had their adrenaline levels on full alert! – and I had Dad pretty breathless!
The night before my arrival, my Foster Mom explained that I was a sweet girl, a loving little girl – but I was also a “bolter” – I love to run! and run! and run! I love the thrill of the chase and I love to feel the wind in my fur!! Mom and Dad have been so careful with me. But today, as they were leaving for their Thanksgiving dinner I saw my chance and I bolted past Mom and out the front door! I didn’t go far – across to the park and to the neighbors, but I gave Dad a good chase. I knew I was in trouble, I knew I shouldn’t be out without my lead, but this game of “keep away” was such fun!
The result – I spent a “time-out” in my crate, will wear my lead while I am in the house, will be restricted to a safe area when the front door is opened, and tonight Dad will be installing my own GPS Tile on my collar in the event I do this again. I am also pretty sure this will be a special lesson for us to focus on when I go to obedience school..
I didn’t mean to be a “bad girl” – I just couldn’t help myself – the lure of the open space was just too strong for me.. I am sorry Mom and Dad for being such a stinker today and frightening you when I took to the wind. I will try to do better!
