The Perfect Sunday Wake-up

December 17, 2017

Every morning I wake up cuddled in my Mom’s arms. She is giving me little kisses, rubbing my belly, and is softly (so she doesn’t wake up Dad, who is snoring near by) telling me she loves me.

But Sunday mornings are the best. The room isn’t dark like most mornings, so when I open my eyes I see Mom, and then Dad, and I know this is real and not puppy heaven or a dream I was having.

I sure love my new forever family and how much they love me.

Musings: Already Seven Weeks!

December 15, 2017

Hi! Shelby here! I hope everyone has had a good week. I know it’s late, but hopefully not too late for me to tell you about my great week! Mom says we have to go to bed soon, so I need to make this quick!

Can you believe it has been seven weeks since I joined my forever family! Mom and Dad have been really busy this week. Mom went to work every day and finished up grading final papers and posting something called grades for the class she has been teaching since I arrived. Dad stayed busy remodeling the house, doing lots of painting, and the last two nights has been spending time writing messages in books. Mom told me Dad published a cool cookbook that contains all kinds of yummy recipes from the restaurant we use to own. I am hoping he will make one of the recipes for me! I’m told I eat all the time and when I am not eating, I am sleeping, playing, or you know, doing “other business”!

Dad also did something really cool this week, but he looked kind of funny with a hat that went down over his ears and he kept walking up and down and down and up on this ladder. We all stood at the doorway and watched, and now our house is all lit up with these beautiful white lights and there is even a reindeer. I tried to get the reindeer to chase with me, but he just wanted to stand gazing out over the new yard. Doesn’t he know that when you are in the front yard you should run and chase the squirrels!

I am pretty sure I am the most loved puppy ever! Mom lets me snuggle with her every morning and night, Dad has the best lap ever and I spend every evening with him, and my brothers and sisters are playing with me and at night they even let me sleep with them, even the cat! Although, I am thinking Mom and Dad need to get a bigger bed for us kids!

Mom was telling me next week, actually in five more days it is going to be a very special day for me, a day we will be celebrating! I wonder what day this will be?

Sweet dreams to all!!

Musings: My Youngest Brother – Lincoln!

December 9, 2017

Lincoln is the youngest of the older pups and at 4 years old he is closest to my age. He is a sweet, but often frightened little brother. But I sure love him and I hope in time he will become my play partner. He loves cuddling with both Mom and Dad and of all of us, he gives the best puppy kisses!

Lincoln came from a puppy breeder in an area close to The Gorge. But Mom didn’t realize how isolated he was until she went to pick him up at 12 weeks. Mom said if she had realized she would have taken more than one pup to make sure they didn’t stay at the place he came from. It was clean, but it made Mom said to see so many puppies being bred in such a small place. Mom has always felt sad for not adopting more than one pup that day.

Mom had always picked up new puppies at 8 weeks, and she was rightly worried not being able to pick Lincoln up until 12 weeks. The most important time for socialization is these four weeks and Mom believes this is why Lincoln is often afraid. He doesn’t like loud noises or anything with wheels. But the wheels may come from when a bike ran into him in the Park and scared him. But he is a great brother and he comes right to me when I am afraid.

I definitely love my “little” Big Brother!

Musings: Six Weeks In My Forever Home!

December 8, 2017

Hi all! Shelby here!! Six Weeks! Yes, Six Weeks!!

Today marks the 42nd day with my new forever family. It has been a busy week, but with moments of quiet time as I continue to settle in to my new home.

This week I met a new friend Lulu and she brought me a new toy named Lamb Chop (I love Lamb Chop), we went to the Puppy Spa for a haircut and I caught up on my puppy vaccines, and of course I spent lots of time with my new family. I even got Lincoln to run with me in the back yard!

With the weather colder, Dad isn’t golfing as much, so we spend lots of time together during the day and of course, he is my late night companion after Mom and the other pups head to bed. Dad is teaching me about painting and remodeling, and something called Netflix, and I am teaching him about the best way to hold my favorite squeaky toy to make it squeak the loudest!

My time with Mom is spent early in the morning after her alarm clock goes off and she is up readying for work. We snuggle under the covers and I fall back to sleep cradled in her arms, until that pesky snooze alarms goes off again, and sometimes again! But then something more exciting happens at the end of the day. My siblings must have special radar, because all of a sudden there is a frenzy of activity, and then the door opens, and there she is! Yay! Mom is home and we are all so excited, including our Dad! As soon as I realize it’s Mom I run back and grab my favorite toy to bring to her! The first time I did this it made her cry, because her first puppy Beemer use to do the same thing! I guess doing this is pretty special. I didn’t know, I just wanted Mom to know how happy I was to see her and to share my toys with her!!

Tomorrow we will be decorating for Christmas and us kids will be working on our Santa Lists. We posed for our Christmas photos – but you will need to wait to see these! (There is a little preview if you look closely at the photos.) Mom tells me Christmas is coming, but I am sure it already arrived!
